While waiting for Google to finalize its acquisition of Fitbit, the smartwatch-maker continues its operations and appears to have a product launch planned soon. Those eagerly watching the wearables market will be glad to know there is going to be a Charge 4, albeit the lack of physical changes.

Over the weekend, 9to5Google spotted FCC filings and retail listing of what's believed to be the Fitbit Charge 4, which looks largely similar to 2018's Charge 3, though we're not really surprised. It's too early for a facelift, but it does come in several colors: Black, Rosewood, and Special Editions Granite and Storm Blue/Black.

The solitary button on the upcoming smartwatch is again just an indent in the aluminum casing that's responsible for its haptic feedback capabilities. Below is a cutout in the case for altimeter to count stairs and pins for charging. The back of the Charge 4 features the sensor stack that allows for optical heart rate monitoring and relative SpO2 sensor.

As the Charge 4 looks the same as the Charge 3, we're guessing its guts have been updated -- otherwise, we find no reason for a new model in under two years. What's great about the similar design is that you can potentially use the same watchbands, as well as the charging cable and other available accessories.

What we're hoping, however, is the addition of an always-on display, the feature that was lacking in 2018's Charge 3. It's likely to be added, including NFC that allows wrist-based payments. Perhaps the biggest question everybody has is what new health features the new Fitbit smartwatch is offering.

When asked about it, this is what Fitbit had to say:

"We appreciate the interest and excitement around our products. We are constantly working on new health and fitness devices to help people live healthier lives. We don't have news to share at this time, but you'll be amongst the first to know when we do."

As mentioned, the Fitbit Charge 4 comes in the middle of Google's acquisition announced in November 2019. The deal hasn't been sealed yet and is also not guaranteed, so while everything is yet to be finalized, the smartwatch company will simply have to continue its regular operations.

The leaked UK price listing revealed that the Fitbit Charge 4 will be available for £139, making it £10 more than the Charge 3's current price. The company is yet to announce the device officially, including its specs and features.
