New York City now makes up 5% of the world's confirmed COVID-19 cases. Experts are now saying the region has fastly become the new epicenter of the pandemic. For context, the world now has 332,930 confirmed COVID-19 infections with 40,788 reported in the past 24 hours as of Monday night. Deaths are at 14,510 with new fatalities at 1,727.

The city reported 1,800 COVID-19 patients as of Sunday. Of that, 450 are in intensive care units. All in all, the city has 10,764 positive cases. Brooklyn and Queens accounted for more than 3,000 respectively. 99 people have already died in the city to date.

For a clear context of how the situation is dire in the city, it is to be noted that all over the New York State, 15,000 are sick of the virus while 114 people already died.

The city accounts for 5% of all cases in the United States. The US has a total of 31,573 positive cases, with 16,354 new cases in the past 24 hours.  Deaths in the US are now at 402 with new fatalities in 201.

All over the Regions of the Americas, there are 37,016 people confirmed with the virus while 17,331 were reported in just 24 hours. The region now has 465 deaths and 213 new fatalities.

The US State Department said it is working hard to get about 13,500 Americans who are still abroad, stranded by widespread bans on flights. Officials said 16 flights are ready to take off in the next few days as window time to get these Americans to become less and less.

The Senate meanwhile said they are trying to close a deal on about $2 trillion to fund all needed measures to combat the pandemic.

In Canada, officials are also at their heels thinking of ways to get Canadians stranded overseas. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the government is working with local airlines to make repatriation faster. The country's foreign minister, Francois-Philippe Champagne, said his office is currently processing 14,000 emails and answered about 10,000 calls.

If Canada succeeds in repatriating all of its citizens trapped abroad, Champagne said it is "probably the largest repatriation effort in Canada's history in peacetime."

In Mexico, concerns are now hight at camps located in the US border in Matamoros. There have been cases of colds and flu in the settlement that is home to more than 2,000 people.

In Brazil, far-right president Jair Bolsonaro maintained a strong stance that his foes and the media are only misleading citizens about the risk of COVID-19 in the country.  Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo have since asked residents to stay home, implementing tough quarantine measures in the region.

Bolsonaro maintained everything surrounding COVID-19 is a media trick despite Brazil having 1,546 cases of COVID-19 and as many as 25 deaths.
