In 2014, Cesc Fabregas had a chance to return to Arsenal FC but everything just failed to push through. The former captain admitted he was expecting to return to the Gunners but never got a response from the team. Pressured to decide at the time, the 32-year-old ended up joining Chelsea FC instead.

Until now, most were left wondering what happened at that time. Fabregas was sold to the idea and determined to make a homecoming. Speaking to Arsecast, Fabregas explained that he had to make a move with the Gunners not touching base with him for over a week back then.

“Arsene didn’t give an answer, we just had to wait one full week to see if they responded. Definitely, this was my first option, in my mind I’m telling everyone I’m going to Arsenal - this is what I want," he said.

But with no answer, Fabregas needed to make a move. He could not wait forever and did not want to conclude immaturely on what was going on in the mind of Wenger.

“Arsene can see this. I didn’t want to be a beggar, they know the situation, in one week they haven’t said anything, straight away I knew they probably didn’t want me back. They waited the full week without giving me a response," he added.

It should be noted that several teams were interested in the Spanish midfielder. Among the teams in waiting to include Manchester City and Manchester United. Chelsea ended up securing him and Fabregas reveals that it was Jose Mourinho's talk that struck a nerve that aroused his interest. In all, it was the fact that Fabregas saw himself fitting in perfectly on what Mourinho had planned for the Blues.

“What he told me, the team he wanted to make, what he thought of me, how he wanted me to play, this is what I wanted," recalled Fabregas.

Of course, most were left disappointed by the move of Fabregas. But most never knew what he was going through and why he ended up in Chelsea. With the apparent low interest of Wenger and the Gunners, narrating the events which went down at the time could finally put everything to rest.

“Thank god that I took that decision because those five years I was very happy there, we’ve won everything in England, the best team in English football when I was there. With the fans there was a connection that was impeccable,” Fabregas said via Goal.com.
