Queen Elizabeth is adding a new staff to her official royal household and she is someone who used to work as the PR director for Prince Harry and Meghan. Sara Latham was one of 15 people that the Duke of Duchess Sussex had to fire since they are moving overseas and stepping back as working royals.
According to Daily Beast, such arrangement made Latham frustrated about her future job. However, Queen Elizabeth, reportedly, snapped her up to work in her private offices in Buckingham Palace.
Latham will advise the Queen on special projects. According to Tatler, Latham will now report to Edward Young, the Queen's most trusted adviser and Private Secretary. A palace insider said that she will be a great addition to the Queen's own team since she has a great vision and a good network of resources.
The PR head has quite the credentials as she used to work for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign. She also helped Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Latham carries a dual citizenship as British and American. She also helped the British government land a successful bid in the 2012 London Olympics.
Prince Harry and Meghan hired Latham right after their wedding in May 2018. She was to work on tempering the negative publicity, especially against the Duchess of Sussex. Daily Beast, however, reported that Latham's work was often "undercut and outmaneuvered" by Prince Harry and Meghan, as well as their U.S. press advisers.
Latham's hiring comes as Prince Harry and Meghan announced that Buckingham Palace will no longer be commentingon the Sussex pair. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made it clear that they have hired the Sunshine Sachs agency in the U.S. and James Holt's PR team in the U.K. to be their official media outlets.
Effectively, this also means that Buckingham Palace will no longer steer the Sussex pair's media mileage and publicity. They will also no longer advice Prince Harry and Meghan about Sussex related media questions.
Prince Harry and Meghan will officially become non-working royals by April 1. Though they are still part of the royal family, the Sussexes will not be asked to represent Queen Elizabeth or the Crown in future royal engagements.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also be working privately on the patronages they have retained. However, they will also start building their own non-profit and have agreed to give up their Sussex Royal brand.
