Prince Charles is going to pay for half of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's security cost in the United States. Pegged at more than $4 million a year, the Prince of Wales will apparently make a private contribution of $2 million towards this expense.

Sources told the Daily Mail that Prince Charles agreed to provide the needed amount for his second son and his family. The source, however, clarified that the Price of Wales doesn't have an "infinite amount of money" thus Prince Harry and Meghan will eventually have to fend for themselves.

A special unit from the United Kingdom called the Metropolitan Police is usually tasked to protect the royal family, including their travels abroad. Prince Harry and Meghan, however, have been forced to hire a private security, which usually cost more than the Metropolitan Police.

However, since the Metropolitan Police is legally not allowed to carry guns in the United States, then Prince Harry and Meghan have no option but to go for a private security firm. The news comes as President Donald Trump tweeted that the U.S. government will not be paying for the protection of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, even if he regards Queen Elizabeth to the highest order as his friend.

But Prince Harry and Meghan insisted that they have not asked Trump for any security protection. A representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the press that their security arrangements will be privately funded.

As they announced their transition from senior royals to non-working royals in January, Prince Harry and Meghan said that they will still need to have protection because of their visibility and roles. The royal family agreed that they still connote a certain risk level as public figures since the Duke of Sussex was born as a royal and Meghan has her own profile as a former Hollywood actress.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles tested positive for the coronavirus last week. Palace officials announced on Tuesday, March 30, that the Prince of Wales is now out of self-isolation and remains in good health after experiencing mild symptoms of the COVID-19 infection.

A spokesperson told the press that Prince Charles has consulted with his doctor and can now enjoy the rest of his stay in his Birkhall house in Scotland. The royal and his staff are still following directives from the government while his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, is still in self-isolation.
