The coronavirus situation in the west is moving fast but some American states have yet to reach the peak of the outbreak as health authorities fight to contain the fast-spreading CoVID-19 strain.

Fauci Calls for Federally Mandated Order

On Thursday, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci recommended a federally mandated stay-at-home order at this point in the outbreak.

Speaking with CNN, Fauci said he doesn't understand why the current administration has not rolled out an order from the federal government. His comments came after United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday every state has a different CoVID-19 level.

Trump reiterated that the state government should be given some flexibility in managing their coronavirus battles based on the current situation in their territories.

Cuomo Talks of 'Humbling' CoVID-19 Situation in New York

During his Thursday briefing on the coronavirus situation in the state of New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke of the "hurtful and humbling and painful" trials the state has been experiencing throughout its CoVID-19 battle, CNBC reported.

"I'm doing everything I can, but people are still dying," Cuomo said. He said the state will offer assistance to frontliners and businesses that produce protective gear for healthcare providers.

As of Thursday, New York has registered 92,381 confirmed CoVID-19 cases and 2,373 deaths.

New Jersey Deaths Spike

New Jersey is the second hardest-hit state in the U.S. and on Thursday, health officials confirmed that 182 lives were lost to the novel coronavirus.

According to NJ.com, the new deaths in the state mark a record one-day high that doubled the previous day's toll. Furthermore, 3,489 new confirmed coronavirus cases were registered in the state.

Gov. Phil Murphy pointed out that while the new deaths and cases were reported on Thursday, not all of them took place in the last 24 hours. Instead, he said there was a backlog of test results that were waiting in line for a period of as long as two weeks.

New Jersey now has a total of 25,590 confirmed coronavirus cases and 537 deaths.

California Tops 11,000 Cases

Health authorities in California believe the real number of coronavirus cases in the state are much higher than the official tallies registered as the state passed 11,000 CoVID-19 cases on Thursday.

According to the Los Angeles Times, California now has 11,175 confirmed CoVID-19 cases and 246 deaths following the addition of 1,237 new cases and 31 new deaths.

While California's coronavirus cases appeared to add up slowly in the first few weeks of the outbreak on January, an uptick in infected patients came after the government made testing more available throughout the state.

Canada Tops 10,000 Cases

In Canada, 401 new coronavirus cases were registered on Thursday, pulling the country's total of infected cases above 10,000 with over 120 deaths from the highly-contagious disease.

Some health experts in the country expressed concerns over the vulnerability of some people in retirement homes and indigenous communities across the country.

The concerns came after a string of deaths in Ontario and Alberta were linked to CoVID-19 outbreaks detected in several nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. The Public Health Agency of Canada previously said there will be challenges ahead in tracking community-transmission cases.
