Willian Borges da Silva is clueless on what will happen after this season but it appears his options been cut considerably. Football action has been indefinitely suspended and such leaves players with expiring deals in waiting. Willian is one of those, originally someone seeking a long-term deal to whichever team who would be willing to give him that.

At the way things look now, it appears the probability of securing a long-term deal from Chelsea or any other team has gone up in smoke. Death tolls are rising and business revenues are declining considerably. Regardless if the season pushes through or not, Willian may have to lower his expectations and possibly agree to a short-term deal for now.

Hence, he is more likely to reconsider his earlier stance with Chelsea. Originally asking for a three-year deal, the 31-year-old winger wanted a three-year pact. The reason behind this is obvious. At his age, he is addressing his future. Though understandable, Chelsea was unwilling to oblige, Omnisport reported. He admits that talks were underway before the COVID-19 pandemic put everything on pause.

"There were no more talks or negotiations. Chelsea said that three years would be impossible, so at the moment it seems unlikely that I'll extend, but nothing is impossible," Willian said.

However, it would be best to note that this was the scenario before the pandemic got out of hand. With Chelsea likely feeling the brunt financially, there is a chance that the previous offer could further be shortened due to obvious reasons. And the worst part of it is that other teams may be thinking the same way.

"We don't know what might happen. We might suddenly reach an agreement, but what I can say today is that my contract is up and I'll be free to negotiate with any club," the Brazilian winger said.

The reality of it all for Willian right now is that he and other players who were hoping for a big payday may not be in line for one. Contracts are likely to be shortened and figures dipping. Some could end up settling while others may opt to wait and see. It is a complicated situation but a reality - regardless of the current season resumes or not.

There is no telling what league officials plan to do moving forward. Death tolls are rising over in Europe and cases continue to spike with each passing day. Forced into isolation, Willian and other players with expiring deals may want to explore their options but big paychecks are likely to be low to none.
