Samsung made a surprising move when it released the Galaxy Z Flip without support for 5G networks. But it seems to have changed its mind if rumors are to be believed. Apparently, there's going to be a 5G version of the foldable phone set to arrive later this year.

The South Korean tech giant has made it clear that it wants to ship more 5G devices in 2020. One proof is that there's an upcoming 5G variant of the Galaxy A51, which means that flagship phones aren't the only ones to get support for the next-gen network.

A 5G Galaxy Z Flip is logical though but the issue is its 3,300mAh battery, which is minuscule compared to what the Galaxy S20 phones have. However, early reviews of the Z Flip do indicate that its battery is enough to last the entire day, so there's a good chance the device could have a 5G variant soon.

It's also possible that Samsung may upgrade the Galaxy Z Flip's battery so it can handle the workload a 5G device requires. An only-LTE variant also makes sense to make the starting price more affordable.

And yet, people were still drawn to purchasing the Galaxy Z Flip in spite of its not too impressive battery life and the lack of 5G. Admittedly, the design of the phone is striking enough to get people to buy it. Introducing it again in the market as a 5G device is maybe a ploy to get those who didn't buy it finally get Samsung's flip phone. Hopefully, by then, 5G networks will be available in more areas.

Along with a 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip, there's also news about the Galaxy Fold's successor, which is shipping in Q3 2020. The Galaxy Fold 2 is rumored to arrive with a 256GB variant, which will be made more affordable than the original Galaxy Fold. A more expensive version is also in the pipeline with 512GB storage. The Galaxy Fold 2 will have a 108MP main camera, S Pen support, 5G support, and a 7.7-inch display.

Going back to the Galaxy Z Flip, the 5G version of the device will only be sold in markets where 5G coverage is available. It is unclear as of the moment when Samsung will launch the phone and how much it will cost, but we'll let you know as soon as information is made available.
