WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Chicago P.D. season 7 episode 20. Read at your own risk.
Chicago P.D. season 7 episode 20 is scheduled to air next week on NBC, with the title "Silence of the Night." This episode serves as the season finale, as the series shifted into a different direction due to the current global health crisis. But although this wasn't meant to be the original finale, the episode will still bring some interesting stories, especially to Atwater.
Atwater goes undercover to take down a gun-trafficking ring in Chicago P.D. season 7 episode 20. But then, he found out that an officer from his past also goes undercover in the same organization. It's nice to see the character having his own storyline in the series, given that LaRoyce Hawkins' character wasn't often given a highlight story.
This is also an opportunity to learn more about Atwater, most specifically what was his life before being part of Intelligence. Every character in the series has their own story, and it's clear that there are some interesting things about Atwater that wasn't mentioned before. Even though there's no clear resolution here, the episode probably sets up something more for the character down the road.
As mentioned, Chicago P.D. season 7 episode 20 serves as the season finale. This wasn't originally planned, but due to the current situation, filming of the series was forced to shut down earlier than expected -- just like Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. One Chicago shows halted their production due to the COVID-19 outbreak and mass lockdown.
While there may not be some huge cliffhangers, the episode may still bring some intense and interesting stuff along the way. In addition, the remaining episodes that weren't filmed this season will possibly be carried out in the next installment. The good news is that season 8 is already confirmed, so there's no need to worry about the future of the series.
In another report, there are questions as to whether or not Tracy Spiridakos is leaving her role, Hailey Upton, in the series. There is no actual confirmation for that at the moment and there's no indication that her previous appearance would be the last one. Yet, some plans for the character may no longer play out, given that the series already reached its season finale.
Chicago P.D. season 7 episode 20 airs on Wednesday night, Apr. 15, on NBC. The series can also be watched online via NBC's official website, as well as in other live-streaming platforms including YouTube TV, DirectTV, and Fubo TV. Previous seasons are also available on Hulu, while viewers can buy episodes or seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
