Former vice president Joe Biden will beat Donald Trump for the presidency if this were held today, continuing poll findings extending back to 2019 revealed the same results.

He enjoys a huge lead over Trump --  53% to 42% among registered voters -- in the latest poll for CNN conducted by SSRS, a professional full-service market and survey research firm based in Philadelphia. This new result is almost similar to CNN's poll in early March. The CNN Poll was conducted by SSRS from April 3 to 6 among a random national sample of 1,002 adults throughout the United States.

Also in March, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll saw Biden with a 52% to 43% lead in a general election matchup over Trump. An average of all polls in March saw Biden with a seven-point advantage over Trump. The latest CNN poll in April has seen this lead expand to 11 points.

The April 3 to 6 CNN poll also saw Biden with an edge over Trump as the presidential candidate more trusted to handle key issues. Respondents said Biden is better than Trump in responding to the COVID-19 crisis (52% to 43%), will provide more healthcare to Americans (57% to 39%) and will better help the middle class (57% to 38%).

As in previous polls, this new one from CNN confirms Biden is the presidential choice among voters of color. The CNN poll showed 72% of voters of color (mainly African-Americans and Latinos) support Biden. On the other hand, whites continue to say they'll vote for Trump (52% to 44%). Among those under age 35, 62% back Biden while 31% go for Trump. Seniors will vote for Trump over Biden by a 55% to 42% margin. Biden is the candidate for 62% of women compared to 32% for Trump. Men, however, still favor Trump, 51% to 44%.

On the other hand, Biden holds a broad advantage among younger voters that tend to be more supportive of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the Democratic primary. Sanders was the only candidate contesting the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party until he dropped out of the race Wednesday.

Biden is supported by 91% of Democrats. Trump is the man for 96% of Republicans. Independent voters, who swung the 2016 presidential election, will vote for Biden by a margin of 52% to 40%.

Polls showing Biden consistently beating Trump in November have been around since 2019. A Fox News poll from Sept. 15 to 17, 2019 showed Trump being beaten decisively by Biden, 52% to 38%, which is almost similar to the newest CNN poll taken last week. The14 percentage point spread is the largest ever garnered by Biden in all seven Fox News polls dating back to October 2018.

Biden has beaten Trump in all seven polls conducted by Fox since October 2018. In the first poll from Oct. 10 to 12, Biden was ahead of Trump 50% to 37%. Biden's smallest lead was a seven percentage-point edge in March 2019.

Trump has long considered Biden his most dangerous opponent. It was the desire to damage Biden that led Trump to launch the infamous quid-pro-quo scandal in Ukraine that saw him impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives on Dec. 19, 2019. In this notorious incident, Trump tried to force the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, into agreeing to conduct a corruption investigation on Biden in exchange for Trump releasing U.S. military aid to that country.
