Chelsea FC has plenty of things to do and it all starts by locking up players for next season. One player who had a topsy turvy ride with the Blues is Olivier Giroud. After seemingly getting lost in the early goings, the 33-year-old French forward has finally blended in with Frank Lampard and company.

To recall, Giroud was someone linked to a possible transfer move during the last transfer window. A team that came close to getting him was Inter Milan. The deal failed to materialize with the Blues plagued with personnel problems. Hence, Chelsea stuck with the Frenchman and it appears the move has turned the tide, Goal.com reported.

"It's behind me. It was a tough month for me. I just spoke with the manager and I believed what he said, that I would get my chance and he has given me my chance," Giroud said.

Contract discussions are a good sign that everything seems going well over at Chelsea. Giroud is one of the top names that could be available after this season but the Blues are trying to address that as early as now. With looming uncertainty on the plight of this season, Chelsea may have just started its build-up as early as now with the current players that deserve to stay.

Asked on whether it would be a done deal that he would stay on with the Blues, Giroud preferred to keep his decision to himself. With the COVID-19 pandemic causing panic and chaos to the world, Giroud knows that there are better things to do than ponder on his next contract.

"And after I think I have two, three nice seasons in front of me. It's not the time to talk about contracts. But one more time I will take a decision when it comes," he explained.

Giroud's current pact expired on June 30. FIFA did issue through a statement that current contracts will be extended until the current season officially comes to a close. Hence, all agreements between the Blues and Giroud are likely to be on a verbal agreement basis. Until the French footballer signs on the dotted line, nothing will be made official.

For now, Chelsea is busy trying to aid and help out in the fight against COVID-19. They have donated to foundations and have offered their amenities for National Health Service staff. This is the best Chelsea FC can do for now as it tries to do its part in helping staff, personnel and front liners in need of support.
