The next flagship smartphone of Apple, the iPhone 12 series, is anticipated to arrive sometime in Sept. 2020. While the Cupertino tech giant has not yet confirmed this, leaks and speculations surrounding the upcoming iPhone have been rife online since last year. The latest leak about the flagship iPhone, however, could be bad news to some iPhone 12 hopefuls.
Latest iPhone 12 Leak
The freshest leak about the iPhone 12 series comes from FrontPageTech's Jon Posser. On his Twitter account, Posser says that the iPhone 12 would not feature USB-C connectivity. He adds that the Cupertino tech juggernaut will go "portless before they go USB-C."
Apple, featuring the USB-C port on the iPhone 12, has been the subject of some discussions in the past. Some fans mentioned that Apple might use the widespread charging standard present in most Android smartphones. Earlier this year talks about the USB-C port on Apple iPhones became a controversial topic following the decision made by the European Union, encouraging smartphone manufacturers to use a universal charging standard.
Apple's Stand On EU's Recommendation
The Cupertino tech giant, at that time, however, said that scrapping the Lightning port on its iPhones could impact many active devices and accessories currently used by European costumers. Apple also said in a statement reported by BBC that the proposal would further add more electronic waste instead of minimizing it. However, it is worth mentioning that Apple also dropped the 30-pin connector back in 2012 and replaced it with the Lightning port.
At present, Apple's iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro are still utilizing the USB-C. Will Apple change its mind and feature the USB-C on the iPhone 12? Last month, Prosser claimed that Apple is planning to reintroduce the AirPower. He said that the product is needed to push for the portless iPhone.
Other iPhone 12 Details
Meanwhile, TFI Securities Analyst and reliable Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo in 2019 mentioned that the Cupertino tech giant might introduce a totally wireless smartphone by the end of 2021. It would take sometime before Apple could launch portless devices, and based on Prosser's statement, it is safe to say that the iPhone 12 would not make a switch to USB-C. With the release window of the upcoming flagship smartphone drawing near, more information is starting to pop up online.
So far, the iPhone 12 is anticipated to house Apple's next-generation A14 Bionic chip. Its higher tier model is expected to feature 5G wireless network connectivity support and a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz. Moreover, the iPhone 12 is rumored to feature improved camera configuration with LiDAR scanner present in the recently released iPad.
