The Good Doctor season 4 might be returning this fall, so fans need to wait for a little while. A lot of things happened in the season 3 finale and some stories might be carried out in the next installment. Freddie Highmore's Dr. Shaun Murphy's storyline is one of the most interesting parts of the series and it's exciting to see what's next for him.
Shaun might be dealing with several things when The Good Doctor season 4 arrives. The first three seasons explored a great deal of his life, but it seems new stories are coming for him in the upcoming installment. There could also be some changes along the way, given that he has gone through some difficult things in the previous installment.
For instance, we've seen Shaun having a hard time with his relationship with Lea in season 3. He's trying to pursue her, but it's somewhat out of reach. So, now, is there a chance their relationship will evolve in The Good Doctor season 4? That could be possible, given that they've been through a lot together, which could redefine their relationship in a huge way.
It's also interesting to see them having more romantic scenes in the new season. The previous season has been hard for both of them, so it would be nice seeing them having happy moments. But still, some things may not be that easy for them and they may face conflicts and challenges along the way. This could also prove how fit they are to one another.
Aside from Shaun's relationship, The Good Doctor season 4 may also explore Shaun's grief. It remains to be seen whether or not he will address his estranged father's death, but it looks like he'll be dealing more with the loss of Dr. Melendez. The latter tragically died in the season 3 finale, which is devastating to the doctors, especially for Shaun.
Meanwhile, there is also a question as to whether or not Shaun will become a new mentor in the next season. There is no clear answer to that at the moment, but there could new interns at the hospital, and Shaun possibly takes on more of a mentor role. And since Dr. Melendez died and some of the doctors' fate at the hospital is in question, some new characters may arrive.
Nicholas Gonazalez is officially not coming back as Dr. Melendez in The Good Doctor season 4, and it looks like Jasika Nicole is not coming back full-time as Carly in the fourth installment. Hence, some speculated there could be new additions once the series returns. That could be possible as the show may want to add new faces to stir things up.
