Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. She is named by her parents, Prince Albert and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Duke and Duchess of York, as Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor.

During that year, no one knows yet that the young "Lilibeth" will become the Queen of the United Kingdom as she was not a direct descendant of her uncle, Prince Edward, the Duke of Windsor, who was the Heir Apparent at that time. A decade later, though, things changed when he abdicated from the post, and the now-Queen's father became the reigning monarch, King George VI.

According to Biography, the young Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed the first ten years of her life living a normal life. She had all the perks of being a royal without all the "pressures" of being an heir to the Crown.

However, the controversial abdication in 1936 changed the whole dynamic of the British Royal Family. This eventually led to her becoming the now-longest-reigning monarch of the British Monarchy.

A few days from today, she will celebrate her 94th birthday. Unfortunately, she will mark the day privately, and likely with Prince Philip in Windsor Castle as they have been observing strict social isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per Insider, things were far different 94 years ago when Queen Elizabeth II was born. Although there was also a pandemic that year called the Encephalitis Lethargica Pandemic, it mysteriously disappeared a year later after impacting nearly 5 million individuals and killing almost 1.6 million people across the globe.

The publication noted that when the future monarch was born, the world population was rated only at 2 billion. This was, reportedly, just a quarter of what the current population is today.

It was also said that, in this period, an average worker earned 75 cents per hour with the price of a dozen eggs rated at 38 cents and a loaf of bread at 9 cents. There was also a huge discrepancy between working men and women in terms of wages. While men can earn up to 95 cents per hour, women can only obtain up to 54 cents per hour.

When Queen Elizabeth II was born, women were not allowed to vote, as well. It was only two years after when the women of the United Kingdom had the same voting rights as men.

In the same year, NBC also started its broadcasting. It was also said that Stanley Baldwin was the Prime Minister and Calvin Coolidge was the US President.
