Marcus Rashford has been a missing piece for Manchester United although his absence was hardly felt before league action came to a halt due to the coronavirus. The Red Devils were unbeaten in 11 games before games were suspended and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been finding ways to keep the team afloat despite the absence of the 22-year-old forward.
One thing working for Rashford is that the COVID-19 lull gives him more time to recover. He has been sidelined by a back injury but the English footballer made it known that he is aching to return and help his team. He is aware that there is a lot of work needed if United is to get back on top. The Red Devils have fallen behind Manchester City and Liverpool the past years but Rashford feels they can catch up to these rival clubs shortly, Goal.com.
“We need to start showing signs that we can be the United of old. Football has changed a lot, so it’s not going to be the same, but we know the club can do it. It’s been difficult, but it’s a period of transition," Rashford said to Four Four Two. “As long as we stay focused, I don’t see why we can’t turn things around and really improve.”
Before he was sidelined, Rashford amassed 19 goals and five assists in 31 games. And while his absence has been resolved a bit by Solskjer, he knows that his teammates need to step up alongside him if they are to rekindle the fire of the United of old. They are in a transition period but Rashford believes everything will eventually fall into place.
Winning titles is what Rashford wants as he tries to work his way up the list of legends that United has. He witnessed how greats like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Ryan Giggs rose to prominence and admits that being counted among those names would be a big honor.
But aside from United, Rashford also has other goals in mind for England. He also wants to help them win a World Cup title. The last time England won was in 1996. With so many plans ahead, Rashford needs to make sure he is good to go and start to work on those goals.
At United, Rashford could get a boost of the team manages to pull in Harry Kane. The name of the Tottenham striker has been linked to transfer rumors with the Red Devils singled out as one of them. If Kane and Rashford join forces, there is no doubt that Solskjaer has little to no reason to deliver multiple titles to Old Trafford.
