There is good news for those rooting for Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton, as they may finally have a romantic relationship in the upcoming Chicago P.D. season 8. The two might be together at some point when the new installment arrives on NBC.
In a recent interview with TV Guide, showrunner Rick Eid discussed what's next for Halstead and Upton in Chicago P.D. season 8. He said that they are excited to dig deeper into Halstead and Upton's relationship and explore how they can carry their professional, as well as a relationship at the same time.
It's apparent that Halstead and Upton have an emotional connection, and this could be one of the reasons as to why they can be together. And although the potential romance may not come overnight, it's interesting to see what they'll do to make their relationship work in Chicago P.D. season 8.
But then, their relationship may not be smooth sailing, as well. Halstead and Upton may face some problems along the way, which could challenge their relationship. Yet, even though their relationship may be rockier in the middle, the two could still find a way to stick together.
In the season 7 finale, Upton was still in New York, so she and Halstead shared a quick FaceTime and both admitted they missed each other. Upton was set to return in episode 21, but the previous season was shortened due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Hence, Upton will return to Chicago P.D. season 8 instead.
In another report via HollywoodLife, Eid revealed that there were plans for Halstead and Upton in the original season 7 finale. The showrunner said that they had lots of interesting storylines planned for the two in the last three episodes.
Now, these remaining episodes may be carried out in the new installment. Eid further revealed where Halstead and Upton's relationship is heading next. He teased that the two "will finally confess their true feelings for one another."
Meanwhile, the official release date of Chicago P.D. season 8 is yet to be revealed. The series usually starts filming in July, just like its sister series Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. But considering the current global health crisis, the upcoming installment might be delayed.
Right night, it's hard to predict when the new season will arrive, as everything depends on the situation happening around the world at the moment. But as per CarterMatt, the new season will probably premiere in fall 2020 -- probably in late September.
