Microsoft has promised that Windows 10 Version 2004 will be out in May at the latest, meaning the OS bump should be ready to use in a few weeks. However, there is a way to download the upgrade in advance and get ahead of the official deployment, and there are compelling fresh features to do so.
For starters, the Windows 10 digital assistant Cortana was subjected to an overhaul. The feature is now considered an application in the system and should impress with a new user interface. It has become more powerful and ready for customization like users can resize the Cortana window to preference.
The bot has been programmed to find and create emails, which should be welcome for users looking to dial up on productivity, according to Engadget. But most notably, the app is now more focused on type commands instead of voiced instructions.
The Cortana tweak should be appreciated by most users, who prefer using the keyboard when interacting with their PCs. It would take a while before talking with devices, or a machine that sits on the table, becomes a norm for most users so this is a good call for Microsoft engineers.
The Windows Search has also been revised and the feature now offers a tab search that is designed for more targeted queries, which hopefully will return results with greater accuracy and with better speed.
To sum up, the upcoming Windows 10 jump is expected to be a big leap. Microsoft has previously indicated that the two feature upgrades scheduled for release each year, it will be the May Update that is loaded big. So Version 2004 will be quite heavy - there will be tons of features and as shown in recent reports, a sort of a facelift should be expected.
New icons for Windows 10 apps will be packed with the latest installment and the previews that were seen so far indicated that the operating system will be getting a notable dose of beautification.
So for those who have decided to get Version 2004 ahead of most users, the trick is to join the Windows 10 Insider Program, Lifehacker said. In doing this, most users should opt for the Release Preview Insider release channel, which promises better stability and toned down risks.
To manually download the May 2020 Update, refer to the instructions below (again through the courtesy of Lifehacker):
