Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reached out to Thomas Markle, Meghan's father, in the days leading up to the royal wedding. Newly-released court documents showed that the Sussex Royals tried to help Thomas, who was hospitalized at that time, but he has been claiming that Meghan abandoned him.

Meghan apparently asked her father if he needed help after she learned that he was in the hospital following a heart attack a few days before her wedding to Prince Harry. Court documents showed that Meghan was concerned for Thomas's condition, as well as his safety, but he refused his daughter's offer for security.

Prince Harry also pleaded with Thomas not to speak to the press about why he couldn't come to the royal wedding. The Duke of Sussex also told his soon-to-be father-in-law that they were not angry about Thomas staging a paparazzi shoot a few days earlier or for pulling out of the wedding.

The duke begged Thomas a few more times to speak to him but he would not pick up Prince Harry's calls. Court documents showed that it was Thomas who shunned his daughter and not the other way around, as Thomas claimed to the British tabloid press.

Meghan's father instead went to the press rather than talk to his daughter about what really happened to their relationship. Later on, Meghan learned that the private letter she wrote his father was published in the tabloids. Much of its content was omitted to show Meghan in a bad light, her lawyers claimed in the lawsuit.

"The defendant's description of this exchange intentionally omits any reference to the claimant or her husband attempting to protect Mr Markle and ensure that he was safe," court documents read. Meghan also said in the court documents that she did not receive texts messages from her father on November 2018 but apparently, Thomas has been telling the press that his daughter wrote him off.

These details have come to light as Prince Harry and Meghan's lawsuit against Daily Mail and its Mail on Sunday edition will be undergoing its first hearing on Friday, April 24. According to Hello, the hearing is expected to take place in a virtual platform due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Prince Harry and Meghan also declared in a scathing letter that they will have zero contact with the British tabloid press because of their "distorted, false or invasive" stories. They will no longer answer calls and queries from at least four news outlets whom they have sued.
