Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew first met during their early 20's. It was said that they crossed paths because of Princess Diana.

As reported, the Princess of Wales and Duchess of York were good friends long before they arrived in the Royal Family. Reports also noted that they were related as they were fourth cousins.

After four years of being Prince Charles' wife, the late Princess, reportedly, thought that it might be a great idea to match her cousin and her brother-in-law. As per Express UK, Princess Diana sought Prince Andrew as her "favorite" among all her husband's siblings.

Some sources revealed that she wanted to help the Duke of York from his break-up with Koo Stark. It was also said that her close tie to Sarah Ferguson led her to decide that wanted her to become her "lady-in-waiting."

However, the Palace, reportedly, did not allow this to happen. As a result, she instead asked Queen Elizabeth II to "extend" an invitation to her cousin for an event in 1985, and place her seat across or next to the Queen's second son.

The Princess of Wales' plan to make a match out of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew seemingly worked. In just after a few months of dating, the couple announced their engagement and tied the knot in 1986.

For a while, royal experts shared that the Wales and York couples had become very popular because of Princess Diana and Sarah, the Duchess of York. Princess Anne was even, reportedly, "bothered" as to how her two sisters-in-law acted.

Unfortunately, both couples announced their separations in 1992. Their divorce papers were also finalized in 1996, with just a month difference from each other.

Following their departures from the Royal Family, it was said that Sarah Ferguson has remained "good friends" with Prince Andrew. In fact, they are, reportedly, seen with each other from time to time up until recently.

The case is different, however, in the Duchess' relationship with the late Princess of Wales. As stated, they stopped talking after their divorces from the royal-born Princes.

According to Cheat Sheet, the Duchess of York released a "tell-all" book titled, My Story. While she mentioned that she is "best friends" with the late Princess Diana, she revealed that she obtained "plantar warts" from her.

Since then, sources said that they stopped talking as the Princess of Wales was "unpleased" with the revelation her cousin provided.
