Prince Charles is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and he is the heir apparent to the British throne. Prince William is the elder son of the Prince of Wales and he is the second in the line of succession to the British throne.
When the time comes that Queen Elizabeth retires from her role and Prince Charles becomes King, Prince William will possibly be stripped off from one of his titles. The Duke of Cambridge received a series of titles when he married Kate Middleton in 2011 and got the auxiliary titles of Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland and Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland.
And as soon as his father ascends to the throne, Prince William is set to inherit more titles. And because of this, one title may be removed from him.
"He may not be the Duke of Cornwall yet but that doesn’t mean Prince William is hurting for royal titles,” The Talko suggested. "Queen Elizabeth II appointed him to the position of Lord High Commissioner, which means he will represent the sovereign at the assembly. He’ll help maintain the relationship between the state and the church and he is not the first person in his family to do so. When Charles becomes King, there’s a chance he could reassign the role to someone other than Prince William."
Prince William will also become the new Prince of Wales once Prince Charles becomes King. This is another title under the Duke of Cambridge’s belt. And since the Lord High Commissioner title is a one-year appointment, there is a high chance that the prince will temporarily step away from the role as he and Kate Middleton will take more engagements in the future.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have ramped up their royal duties as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles remained in isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Recently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been increasing their efforts to support NHS staff and social carers’ mental health during the global health crisis.
"There are definitely some benefits to moving up in the ranks, like having access to income from the Duchy of Cornwall,” The Talko reported. "But not all of the changes will be fun for Prince William and Kate. They love spending time with their family in Anmer Hall, which was a wedding present from the Queen herself. But most of the time they reside in an apartment within Kensington Palace, which is a much more convenient location when it comes to performing royal duties… When Prince Charles takes the throne, it’s likely William and Kate will spend a lot more time in Kensington Palace instead of being able to escape to Anmer Hall."
