Detective Jung Tae Eul finally made it to King Lee Gon's world. Though taken aback a little by her very short travel to the King's kingdom, it looks like she will adjust to her new environment pretty soon. Meanwhile, it seems like Lee Gon will find more about his presumed dead uncle, the power of the flute, and the mysterious portal that links the two universes in The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 5.
This week in SBS K-drama, Lee Gon (Lee Min Ho) will show his world to Detective Jung Tae Eul (Kim Go Eun). The two will also get a scolding from Head Court Lady Noh (Kim Young Ok) after she caught the King and his lady visitor in a room together. Lady Noh knows that the King couldn't be involved in another rumor, hence she told the two that they shouldn't be photographed together.
It looks like to avoid suspicion, Tae Eul will act as one of the King's bodyguards. In the trailer for The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 5, Lee Gon is seen teasing Tae Eul in her new job at his world.
Meanwhile, the female detective will also clash with Lee Gon's best friend and head of his Royal Guard, Captain Jo Yeong (Woo Do Hwan). In the teaser, Tae Eul is seen pointing a gun at the King. Captain Jo tells Tae Eul that she will not be punished for what she did because she is Lee Gon's guest.
What else to expect in the upcoming episodes? Lee Gon could be doing a loyalty check among his ranks. In the previous episode, he found something odd about the autopsy report of his late uncle, Lee Lim (Lee Jung Jin), who murdered his father, the then-King Lee Ho.
He asked Prince Buyeong (Jeon Mu Song) on whether or not he is on his side before he told him that he is puzzled about the autopsy. The King asked Buyeong to help him solve the puzzle about the autopsy that the latter performed 25 years ago.
In the previous episode, Lee Lim learned that time stops for a few seconds when someone uses the portal. He somehow suspected that the other one using the mysterious obelisk could be his nephew since Lee Gon is the one who has the other half of the flute.
As for Lee Gon, he may finally understand why he feels a burning pain in his back when there is a thunderstorm. Moreover, the K-drama could also provide in the next episode an answer as to why Jo Eun Seob (also portrayed by Woo Do Hwan) felt the heat when his doppelganger in the different realm, Captain Jo Yeong, held a steaming hot cup of coffee.
The King: Eternal Monarch tells the story of two parallel universes. One resembles the modern-day Republic of Korea while the other is under a constitutional monarchy and is ruled by a single monarch. The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 5 is set to air on May 1 at 10 p.m. KST on SBS and Netflix.
