Absentia season 3 is officially happening, but there isn't a lot of information when it comes to this new installment. Details are still scarce at the moment, particularly the official release date. But, is there a chance the latest season is coming soon?
It has been a year since season 2 premiered for international audiences, while 10 months for viewers in the United States. Although it has been confirmed there'll be Absentia season 3, there are still a lot of questions as to when it will arrive.
But, it looks like viewers won't be waiting for too long as lead star Stana Katic shared a glimpse of behind the scenes via Twitter. The new showrunner for the third installment, Will Pascoe, also revealed on Twitter that the post-production team locked episode 309 and nearing the end of episode 310.
Pascoe then ended his message by saying: "Hang tight because Season 3 is coming!" This likely hints that everything is being prepared and that Absentia season 3 is probably arriving soon. According to CarterMatt, the latest installment may arrive in summer in some territories.
There have been previous speculations the new season may arrive in mid-2020. The first season premiered in September 2017, while the second one was released in June 2019. The series doesn't follow a certain release date pattern, so it's hard to predict the official air date of the latest season.
As for the potential story of Absentia season 3, it may continue following Emily Byrne (Katic) dealing with some of her struggles. Perhaps, it will delve deeper into her past after it was revealed she's part of an experiment about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The new installment will also focus on other characters and their impact on Emily. For instance, FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac (Matthew Le Nevez) will, reportedly, be more apparent this time and his relationship with Emily will be further explored.
As for other returning characters, Neil Jackson (as Jack Byrne), Angel Bonanni (Tommy Gibbs), Cara Theobold (Alice Durand), Paul Freeman (Warren Byrne), Patrick Heusinger (Special Agent Nick Durand), and Bruno Bichir (Daniel Vega) are all expected to come back in the latest installment.
Absentia season 3 will also introduce a new face, with Ross O'Hennessy playing the character of Macleod. The management of the actor revealed this news via Twitter, confirming that he's the newest addition in the upcoming installment. It remains to be seen whether he a friend or a foe of Emily.
