Eduardo Camavinga is a target by several teams, the most notable of which is Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane has his eye on the Angolan footballer although signing him will not be easy. However, the chances of that from prospering may have just gotten a new twist.
On one end, there is Rennes. The team is not motivated to accept any deal for Camavinga right now and made the formal revelation via Sport. The call is hardly surprising considering Les Rennais coach Julian Stephan is not to keen on letting Camavinga go just yet. He believes that staying one more year could work to his advantage and raise his value.
Camavinga is drawing plenty of interest after his superb performance when he debuted last year in Ligue 1. Aside from Los Blancos, other teams interested in the Angolan include Barcelona and Juventus. However, Stephan pointed out how Camavinga is still rough around the edges. It would be best for him to stay for another year and work on his game since he is unlikely to get the same chance to develop if he moves on to other clubs.
"I always give him the advice to stay one more season at Rennes because it is his training club," the 39-year-old said. "After a good season, that quality leap must always be confirmed and it would be easier for him to do it here."
Camavinga is only 17-years-old and has plenty of room to improve. Delaying his move could work out for him, not to mention raise his market value. Moving this summer could end up shortchanging him as well. Most teams are dealing with financial stress, the result of no games being played. Clubs are likely to tighten their belts after this season and hold of any hefty investments to recover from lost revenue.
That said, any figure that Camavinga may be dreaming about may not ensue. Teams will offer him something but likely pale compared to what he is truly worth. Finishing his commitment with Rennes looms as the plausible choice for now. His contract with the team runs until 2022.
The worst thing Camavinga can do is be blinded by big money offered to him. But he needs to be aware that he could be worth more than what is being offered by now if he holds off any plans of joining big-time teams. Further, he could end up being underutilized or loaned to other teams. If Real Madrid or any other team does pick him up, a scenario could include seeing him returning to Rennes but on loan. Compared to where he is right now, that could be a pretty uncomfortable situation.
