Princess Diana and Prince Charles have remained to be one of the most popular royal couples. Despite the "disastrous" marriage and events that happened in their lives, many royal fans and supporters are still looking into their past.

In 1981, the most expensive royal wedding in British history happened in the United Kingdom. The Heir Apparent finally tied the knot to his then-girlfriend, Lady Diana Spencer.

While the start of their relationship was, reportedly, happy and harmonious, things changed after the late Princess gave birth to their youngest son, Prince Harry. As revealed, the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana started to fallout.

According to Pop Sugar, the Wales couple formally separated in 1992. After years of speculations and allegations, the Prince and Princess of Wales finally came into terms and decided for a "trial separation."

But, despite living separately, sources revealed that they continued to attend royal engagements and events together. Some even attested that they were working it out to get back together.

In 1995, however, Queen Elizabeth II, reportedly, ordered the couple to legalize their separation. As reported, the British Monarch wrote a letter to the Prince and Princess and asked them to get a divorce.

This came after Princess Diana sat down for an interview, as per claims. It was revealed that she spoke on air that there were "three people" in their marriage. "It was a bit crowded," she added.

Upon learning about the interview, reports shared that this left Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip no choice but, to encourage them to start processing their divorce papers. In 1996, the divorce of Prince Charles and Princess Diana were finalized.

According to Express UK, royal experts and authors claimed that it took several years before the divorce happened because the Princess of Wales did not want it, in the first place. As explained, the late Princess, reportedly, revealed that she wanted them to work things out.

The royal experts continued to assert that Princess Diana previously claimed that she saw what happens in a family when parents get a divorce. As revealed, she experienced it in her own family.

Accordingly, this was said to be the reason why she did not want a legal separation between her and Prince Charles. "I desperately wanted it to work," the princess added.

Unfortunately, this did not happen as they were asked by the British Monarch to divorce. It has also remained unknown if the couple truly tried to work it out during the years prior to 1996.
