Queen Elizabeth II's character in Netflix's popular series, The Crown was reportedly portrayed as the reason why Prince Charles and Camilla Shand never got married in the first place. In the latter part of the season, it was shown that the head of the British Monarch, along with the other senior royals, seemingly played their hand for Camilla to tie the knot with Andrew Parker Bowles.

This portrayal has caused a lot of fans and supporters to ask whether this is based on real events or not. But, royal experts and authors reportedly cleared out that Queen Elizabeth II or any other senior royals had something to do with Prince Charles' break-up with the-Camilla Shand.

According to Cheat Sheet, Prince Charles and Camilla Shand initially met in 1970, during which both of them were fairly young. Although the Prince of Wales was said to be "smitten" after their encounter, it was noted that Camilla was dating her on-and-off boyfriend, Andrew Parker Bowles.

Despite her relationship with her long-time boyfriend, it was said that the young Camilla and Charles fell in love with each other. However, this did not end in marriage as the British Royal Family, especially Queen Elizabeth II did not see the now-Duchess of Cornwall as "appropriate" and suitable for her son, who will, one day, become the King of the United Kingdom.

It was said that everyone was aware of this dynamic. But, according to Express UK, royal experts and biographers revealed that it was Camilla's father who "pressured" Andrew Parker Bowles to propose to Camilla Shand.

The reports continued to reveal that a possible wedding between Prince Charles and Camilla was not likely to happen given that they are both young. Also, it was said that Queen Elizabeth II's firstborn was just about to leave for the Royal Navy during that time.

The details of their split in the 70s were not entirely laid before the public. However, several publications stated that Prince Charles and the now-Duchess Camilla remained good friends during her marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles.

The royal-born Prince was even the godfather of Camilla's son. As for the Duchess, she was present during the wedding of the Prince of Wales to Princess Diana in 1981.

In 1986, however, they were having an affair, which was speculated to be the reason behind the fall down of their respective marriages. Almost two decades later, they got married, with Queen Elizabeth II's blessing.
