The United States has yet to flatten the curve in rising coronavirus cases and asymptomatic patients are believed to be going undetected, raising questions on the true extent of the COVID-19 crisis in the world's largest economy.

Missouri Pork Processing Factory Workers Infected

373 employees at Triumph Foods in Buchanan County, Missouri tested positive of the COVID-19 strain, the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) confirmed.

According to CNN, the total includes contract workers. Infected workers also did not show related symptoms, the department said. Director of DHSS Dr. Randall Williams noted that they will continue to implement contact tracing, especially since the infected employees are asymptomatic.

The health department offered testing for Triumph Foods employees earlier last week and on Thursday, the department revealed that over 120 workers tested positive.

As of Saturday, the U.S. registered a total of 1,132,917 confirmed coronavirus cases and 66,382 deaths.

NYC Mayor Warns of Potential 'Boomerang' as Cases Hit Nearly 170,000

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio warned residents that there is a possibility of a "boomerang" in new COVID-19 cases so everyone should remain vigilant, the New York Post reported.

The news came as the city Department of Health on Sunday reported 1,962 new infections in the city, bringing the total to 168,845. The city is one of the hardest-hit in all of the New York state.

As of Saturday, New York logged a total of 312,977 confirmed coronavirus cases and 24,198 deaths.

Murphy Expected to Present Plans for School Year This Week

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to lay out the state's plans for the remainder of the school year sometime early this week as part of the process in gradually opening up the economy.

According to nj.com, most county and state parks already opened over the weekend, as well as some golf courses. Several beaches have also started welcoming guests again but debates are still going on regarding the reopening of schools.

Health experts have been discussing the risk of children becoming carriers of the COVID-19 strain and later unintentionally infecting their elderly loved ones.

New Jersey as of Saturday registered 123,717 confirmed coronavirus cases and 7,742 deaths. It is the second hardest-hit state in the United States.

Massachusetts Passes 4,000 Mark in Fatalities

4,004 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Massachusetts following 158 more deaths registered on Sunday, NBC affiliate WYCN-LD reported.

Aside from the new deaths, there were also 1,824 new cases reported, bringing the state's total to 68,087. Despite the additional infections and fatalities, the hospitalization rate was retained at 5 percent, indicating a steady but downward trend.

Massachusetts remains the third hardest-hit state in the U.S.

Almost 3,000 New Cases in Illinois

The fourth hardest-hit state in the country, Illinois, reported 2,994 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the state's total infections to 61,499.

According to NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV, despite the hike in new cases, the state also reported a record-high in daily tests carried out to determine the true extent of coronavirus infections among Illinois residents.

19,417 COVID-19 test results came back on Sunday, with the increase in test capacity showing the state's determination in detecting potential asymptomatic cases to prevent further community transmissions.

Ontario and Quebec on the Lead in Canada Fatalities

The latest coronavirus data in Canada revealed that Ontario and Quebec make up for 92 percent of the country's total national death toll, Global News reported.

The news came as Canada logged 116 more fatalities on Sunday, bringing the national total in deaths to 3,682. The country is also close to crossing the 60,000 mark in total COVID-19 infections with a total of 59,473 infections as of Sunday.

So far, the country has carried out 933,000 coronavirus tests. Over 30,000 of Canada's confirmed cases are still active.
