Things are not looking good for Amber Heard after Johnny Depp presented more evidence against her in their ongoing legal drama. In addition to reports that the Aquaman star could be facing jail time for faking injuries to obtain a temporary restraining order against her former spouse, Heard might lose one of her major future projects. A new report suggests that Warner Bros. is already planning to take action against the actress for falsifying evidence. Unfortunately, this could mean that the studio has decided to fire Heard from Aquaman 2.
It's no secret that Amber Heard and Johnny Depp had a messy divorce as the former claimed that the Pirates of the Caribbean star was abusive throughout their marriage. Although everything was settled from there, Depp chose to sue Heard again when she penned an op-ed that suggested she was a domestic abuse survivor.
Interestingly, the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald actor has been presenting more evidence that points to Heard being the abusive one in their relationship and that she was cheating on him during their marriage. Not surprisingly, all the controversy has led to speculations that Heard could end up losing her role in Aquaman 2.
The report from Cosmic Book News purports that Warner Bros. has already chosen to remove Amber Heard from the highly anticipated sequel. Interestingly, it was suggested that the studio chose to buy Heard out of her contract so she would no longer appear in the DC Extended Universe.
In addition to that, it was stated that Warner Bros. believes that the actress is "uninsurable" because of all the legal drama as well as her possible imprisonment for falsifying evidence in her lawsuit against Johnny Depp. Unfortunately, the studio believes that it would be best to axe Heard from Aquaman 2 before the film begins production.
For now, it is unclear what will happen to Amber Heard's character in Aquaman 2 if the actress has been fired from the project. Some believe that Warner Bros. may choose to simply write Mera off the screenplay or recast the Atlantean with a completely new actress.
Interestingly, there is a petition asking the studio to cast Jason Momoa's Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke as Mera in the sequel. However, there is no official announcement from Warner Bros. yet so it would be best to take this with a grain of salt. In the meantime, Aquaman 2 is scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
