After beating Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final match, Real Madrid thought of luring away the Reds' prized striker, but Mohamed Salah rejected the offer made by the Spanish giants. It was a tempting proposal, according to former Egypt coach Hany Ramzy, but Salah opted to stick with Anfield.
It proved a wise decision for the 27-year-old because in the following year, Liverpool again reached the UCL finals, and the Premier League club ended up the European champions. And Salah remains a priority transfer target by the Los Blancos.
Real's admiration of the Egyptian was understandable. His first season with the Reds saw him clearing the net 44 times in all competitions, and the year that followed was equally impressive, capped by the Champions League triumph by the Merseyside club.
The forward would have been a Galactico by the 2018-19 season, but Ramzy said the Egyptian said no to an otherwise "good offer" from the Spanish side.
In an interview with Egyptian TV channel OnTimes Sports, the former Egypt international recalled that Salah shared with him and Hector Cuper, then manager for the national team, some details of the offer sheet sent by Real.
"I was talking to Salah and he told me that Real Madrid sent him an offer ... The offer was really good, but Salah discussed it with me and Mr. Cuper, and he decided to stay with Liverpool because he was comfortable there," Ramzy said, and per the report by AS.
Real continued to pursue the Reds forward, and it came as no surprise because Salah showed how impressive he could be. Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019 and a key factor of the win, and he was shortlisted in the Ballon d'Or award by the end of the year.
The current season, prior to its suspension, again saw the Egyptian excelling. According to Metro, a recent social media post by Ramy Abbas, Salah's agent, highlighted the great contributions from the hardworking forward.
For instance, "Salah has missed out on zero Golden Boots," since joining the side of Jurgen Klopp, Abbas pointed out.
The agent likewise reminded: "In 2018-19 Salah was the team's top scorer in both the Premier League and the Champions League ... This season Salah is the team's top scorer in both the Premier League and the Champions League."
The tweets made by Salah's agent seemed unnecessary, though, as it was clear that Liverpool will want to stay for the long haul. The Egyptian has a contract with Anfield until 2023, and Klopp has already made clear that no amount of offer from Real and other clubs will convince him to let go of his prized attacker.
