Absentia season 3 has already been renewed a long time ago, but details about remain scarce until now. The series runs a quiet production and doesn't release too much detail about what to expect. But based on some reports, it seems like it may be coming sooner than later.
In a recent Twitter post, Absentia season 3 showrunner Will Pascoe teased some substantial progress about the upcoming installment. He said they've locked season finale, wrapped pot on episode 7, and finishing post on episode 8.
Pascoe further teased that they already have an official release date and he's hoping it will be announced soon. But then, he didn't reference any specific countries, as the release date varies depending on which country you live in.
Prior to his post, Pascoe previously shared the post-production team locked episode 9 and they're nearing the end of episode 10. In addition, lead star Stana Katic shared some behind the scenes via Twitter. These social media posts hint that the series is coming anytime soon.
According to CarterMatt, Absentia season 3 may be released in summer in most parts of the world. Yet, the series doesn't really follow a specific release date pattern. For instance, the first installment debuted in September 2017, while season 2 premiered in June 2019.
As for the plot of Absentia season 3, it may probably continue following Emily Byrne dealing with her struggles. Her story might dive deeper into her past since it was revealed she's been part of an experiment about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Absentia season 3 will also focus on other characters and how they could impact Emily's life. FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac, for instance, will be more apparent this time and his relationship will Emily will be explored. Moreover, there could also be new cases, struggles, as well as ghosts from the past.
Absentia season 3 also adds a new character, Macleod, and will be played by Ross O'Hennessy. The actor's management confirmed this news in August 2019. His role at the moment remains unknown and it's yet to be seen whether he's a foe or a friend of Emily.
