Prince Charles is likely hurting over the notion that Prince Harry has a new father figure in his life. Katherine McPhee, who is friends with Meghan Markle, revealed that her husband, 70-year-old music producer David Foster, has a "father and son" bond with the Duke of Sussex.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, the singer said that Prince Harry and Foster keep a beautiful relationship and friendship. Foster was the main guy who helped the Duke and Duchess of Sussex secure a home in Vancouver, Canada, where they stayed for nearly six months after stepping back from the royal family and leaving London.
That "father and son" remark, however, could sting for Prince Charles, according to royal expert Brittani Barger. Speaking with Daily Star, Barger said it would hurt for any parent to learn that their child has a parent/child relationship with someone else.
Barger also noted that Prince Charles was hurt when Prince William refers to his father-in-law, Michael Middleton, as "Dad." The Duke of Cambridge is especially close to his in-laws and they love having him around the family even when he and Kate Middleton were still dating.
According to royal commentator Daniela Elser, McPhee's statement suggested that there's a vacant spot for a father in Prince Harry's life. It would mean that Prince Charles failed his son so he's looking for a father figure.
Another royal commentator Tom Leonard wrote that Foster is an unlikely father figure for Prince Harry and whatever McPhee said could be taken as just another "Hollywood gloss."
McPhee also said that she is not actually close to Meghan, whom she knew from high school. They worked in some school productions together but Meghan was a lot older so they could not bond as equals.
Meanwhile, Foster has been married five times, the current one being with McPhee. The couple was wedded in South Kensington in 2019, after a few years of being together. Prince Harry and Meghan were not present at their wedding.
The music producer, who is credited for many Christmas hits, is the stepfather of the Jenners, Brandon and Brody, from his marriage to Linda Thompson. She was the ex-wife of the Olympian Bruce Jenner, now famously known as Caitlyn Jenner of the Kardashian-Jenner fame.
Foster is also the stepfather of the Hadid sisters, supermodels Gigi and Bella, from his marriage to Yolanda Hadid. They divorced in 2017 after a four-year marriage.
