Filmmaker Doug Liman will be on board in whatever vehicle Tom Cruise will be on for his trip to outer space. It has been confirmed that Liman will helm Cruise's upcoming movie that will be filmed outside Earth.

According to Deadline, Liman and Cruise have started working for the movie. Aside from directing, Liman had penned the first draft of the screenplay and also set to produce the film along with Cruise.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration earlier confirmed that they would be working with the Mission: Impossible actor in its upcoming movie that will be filmed at the International Space Station. Aside from NASA, it is also backed by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

The news about Liman's involvement in Cruise's outer space movie came as Musk and NASA postponed the launched of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The historical event was supposed to take place on Wednesday but authorities delayed the launched to Saturday because of the weather. This will be the first time in nine years that a new batch of astronauts will be sent in other space from the US soil.

The still-untitled film is a reunion project for Cruise and Liman. The two worked together in the movies American Made and Edge of Tomorrow. Liman is also known as the director of other hit movies such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity.

Cruise has been known for daring stunts in his films so many were not surprised when it was revealed that the actor's next project will be shot at ISS, which orbits about 250 miles above Earth. He does his stunts himself such as hanging from the side of a jet plane during takeoff in Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, and scaling Dubai's Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Deadline, however, noted that Cruise's daring stunts in outer space would have to wait as his and Liman's trip to the ISS would not be happening anytime soon. The two need to finish their other project before they could leave Earth.

Liman is currently in post-production for the movie Chaos Walking which stars Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, and Nick Jonas. Cruise, on the other hand, is waiting for the start of Mission: Impossible 7 filming. The production of M:I7 has been delayed after all Hollywood productions were shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cruise will next be seen in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to his iconic 1986 Top Gun. However, the original release date of the movie which is June 2020 has been delayed too. Instead, it was pushed back to December 23, 2020.
