Tom Cruise might continue practicing social distancing to the extreme. The actor is confirmed to be heading to one place that could be the safest and coronavirus-free at the moment: in outer space.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has confirmed that Cruise will be filming his upcoming movie in outer space. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed in a tweet that the Mission: Impossible actor is heading to the International Space Station for the production of his next movie.

"NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the space station!" he wrote. "We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make NASA ambitious plans a reality," he tweeted.

Bridenstine, however, did not say when the filming will start and what film company will be handling the production. It is also unclear what the movie is all about.

If it will be about aliens, this would not be the first time for Cruise to film an alien invasion film. He had the War of the Worlds in 2005 and but never filmed it in space.

Interestingly, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk commented on NASA's tweet, saying, "Should be a lot of fun!." The billionaire and his aerospace manufacturing company have yet to confirm their involvement in the project.

Meanwhile, NASA and SpaceX will be sending astronauts to space for the first time in nearly a decade later this month. NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken will be aboard the Crew Dragon and it will dock with the ISS.

It wasn't clear if Cruise will be joining Hurley and Behnken onboard the spacecraft. The Top Gun actor was never mentioned during NASA's press conference earlier this month.

Cruise is known for doing his own stunts in making his films, whether it is dangerous or not. He had scaled the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai for the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in 2011.

In the most recent installment of the franchise, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the actor learned how to fly a helicopter so he can do the helicopter chase in between mountains by himself. Moreover, he also dangled himself at the side of the aircraft as Ethan Hunt tried to commandeer the helicopter.

In Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in 2015, Cruise hangs for his life at the side of an Airbus 400 cargo plane. He also held his breath underwater for six minutes in the same sequel and had the craziest motorcycle chase in the all of the Mission: Impossible movies.
