Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich is another player originally expected to move out this summer but it appears there has been a change in plans. With the COVID-19 pandemic complicating matters, the 31-year-old has been convinced to stay at Allianz Arena at least for one more season. But based on the recent developments, it appears the German defender could be shelving transfer plans moving forward.

A big reason for that is the change in coach. When Bayern was still under the watch of Niko Kovac, Boateng failed to get the chance to show his talent. But all that changed when Hansi Flick arrived. The German got his chance to play and has since been performing well. He is now a regular fixture for Der FCB and has become instrumental in the clubs' campaign.

"Even before the time with Hansi Flick, I trained well and hard, but I was not allowed to play and never had the chance to get into my rhythm. It is difficult for every player," Boateng said.

It is a big turnaround considering Boateng came close to bolting Bayern before Flick came on board, Wel am Sonntag reported. For now, he admits he is happy with his current team although there is still a chance he could move out of Allianz Arena. At least two teams are interested in the German defender - Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC. Both could revisit a deal for Boateng once his contract lapses next summer.

Flick may have convinced him to stay on but that may only be good for as long as his contract is live. But the script could change after next summer. Flick admits that there is a chance Boateng could still jump ship once his pact ends. Rather than hold another round of talks with the footballer, Flick believes that Boateng is old enough to make his own decisions, SportsBILD reported.

A contract extension for Boateng is not entirely off the table. Flick would love to hand him one if the German is interested. These are the scenarios ahead for Boateng and Bayern Munich. For now, the focus is making the most out of their current season with plans to restart this June.

Boateng is fully aware that clubs are in dire straits financially. Bayern Munich is not spared from this problem and the German football player is keeping an open mind on taking one himself. That may hold for now and could also be a factor in the next contract that Boateng signs.
