Following reports that Liverpool will no longer push with the plan to bring RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner to Anfield, enter Manchester United to make a bid. The English club is in the process of beefing up the attacking roster and the 24-year-old fits perfectly to the requirements set by team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Werner is believed to be a priority target by Liverpool but as Jurgen Klopp admitted recently, the £50 million acquisition cost of the German striker is proving too pricy for the Reds. Klopp said the COVID-19 outbreak prompted Anfield to reassess the club's financial standings and spending big on the upcoming transfer market is no longer a priority.

With the Merseyside club supposedly backing out, United seemed ready to swoop in as Werner is seen a piece of the puzzle that Solskjaer is putting together. The Norwegian boss has been overhauling the forward line and Werner's availability presents a golden opportunity to complete the mission, according to ESPN.

In making a bid for the Leipzig goalscorer, whose total goals in the season so far stand at 30, Solskjaer is optimistic that Werner "could move for a reasonable price."

It appeared that the manager's attempt to sign the Bundesliga star has the support of the United hierarchy with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward giving the assurance that Solskjaer's signing plans will be backed by sufficient funding.

Metro reported that in order to operate smoothly in the middle of the global health crisis triggered by the pandemic, United took out a loan amounting to £140 million, the bulk of which said to be allocated as a buffer for the expected impact of the COVID-19 spread.

However, there will be enough portions of the kitty that can be used on hiring targets for next season. Getting Werner's signature is hoped to only cost £30 million for Old Trafford and there will be other talents to spend money on such Moussa Dembele and Jack Grealish.

But the focus seemed to be on Werner and Jadon Sancho as both are young and have several years of football ahead of them. Solskjaer has been wooing Sancho in the past months and the price of luring him out of Borussia Dortmund could be no lower than £100 million.

For Werner, it would be relatively cheaper if United can convince the Leipzig side to lower the striker's exit clause.

It is the German, however, who has a higher chance of finding his way to the Premier League next season. Werner has made clear that if he will leave Bundesliga, his priority is playing abroad with England as his preferred destination.

On the other hand, Sancho could grab the chance to return to his homeland next season but the likelihood of the 20-year-old remaining with Dortmund for at least another year is quite high with BVB offering him a higher pay to stay.
