Chelsea FC will not be bringing back Jeremie Boga who is currently with Sassuolo. After being sold for $4.3 million in 2018, the Blues included a buy-back option in the deal. But it appears Chelsea is looking in a different direction. They are instead looking for a sell-on clause on the 23-year-old midfielder applicable to his future moves.

Originally, the Blues had the option to buy back Boga for $16 million. But given the financial problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it appears that Frank Lampard has opted to focus on their targets and the players on their end who have expiring deals. The French footballer had been performing well in Italy this season, a reason why most speculated that he would be returning to West London this summer, The Guardian reported. He has scored eight goals and issued two assists in 24 league appearances before the season came to a halt.

With Chelsea reportedly passing on Boga, the 23-year-old could find himself heading to Napoli instead. However, Boga needs to finish his current deal first before deciding on his next move. There are plans to resume Serie A action next month with Italy's minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora targeting either June 13 or 20.

As for Chelsea, Lampard is slowly addressing the current contract situations of his current players. Among the booters who have already re-signed include Olivier Giroud and Willy Caballero. Willian has hinted he would be open to re-signing a temporary deal. Chelsea is reportedly considering two goalies, a backup plan if Kepa could walk this summer.

Lampard does have a lot on his plate right now although he does have plans to infuse new blood. With the limited budget, he is working on right now, the 41-year-old coach is planning one major signing. The ideal candidate is reportedly a striker. So far, the names of Timo Werner and Moussa Dembele have been mentioned as potential targets.

More names are likely to surface in the coming weeks. For now, Chelsea is busy preparing for the resumption of play. The English coach is dealing with manpower problems of his own with N'Golo Kante unsure of playing their remaining games. Kante was granted compassionate leave by Lampard for fears of possibly contracting the COVID-19 virus. Blacks are at higher risk of getting the coronavirus compared to whites. The 29-year-old French player has returned to individual training, hinting that he may suit up for the Blues once the season resumes.
