Doctor Who season 13 is officially happening on BBC One, yet there's still a question when it comes to its future -- particularly its release date. Because of the real-life health crisis happening around the world at the moment, the filming of the series has been impacted.

Right now, there is no indication that Doctor Who season 13 is coming anytime soon. Cast and crew members won't be able to start working, considering the current situation. There could be changes along the way and BBC One may opt to go in a different direction.

As per CarterMatt, there's a chance the series could start its production at some point in the fall -- though there's still no guarantee about that. For now, the health and safety of the cast and crews are the top priority. Perhaps, they could get back when the situation gets a little bit better.

But although the arrival of Doctor Who season 13 is uncertain, the good news is that there's still a holiday special episode set to air later this year or early next year. There's no need to worry about its production as the episode has been already filmed.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall also offered updates about the Christmas special episode and the upcoming installment. He made sure that they are still working on these, even though they weren't able to be together because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Writing in Doctor Who Magazine's production notes section, Chibball revealed that the production on the holiday special episode is being done remotely. The team is completing the visual effects shots of the episode, which was titled "Revolution of the Daleks."

This will be an exciting episode, as we're going to see the Daleks -- a monster group that can be very terrifying. What's interesting about their arrival is that they bring nostalgia in the series. They've also been used sparingly within the Chibnall era.

The festive episode could also deliver stories that could be explored in Doctor Who season 13. The series may further dive into the story, making the upcoming installment even more exciting. The good thing is that we're going to see it either Christmas or New Year.

When it comes to Doctor Who season 13, Chibnall said the producers and writers are constantly in touch via text and voice messages while fleshing out all-new subplots and character arcs. But while they do their best to work in this situation, he noted they're yearning to come back and collaborate in person.
