The Royal family members are obliged to follow certain rules and they have done it for several generations. One of those rules is to avoid controversies as much as possible. However, things have changed in recent years.

Queen Elizabeth's mom passed the Royal Family’s mantra of "never complain, never explain" to her, a line that Queen Mother first adopted when she became a Queen Consort in 1936. Her Majesty appeared to fully agree with the saying as she made it a royal tradition during her reign.

While Prince William and Kate Middleton always support Queen Elizabeth, the couple seemingly feels that they need to ignore the Royal Family mantra to fight for their rights. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could be following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s footsteps in dealing with the press.

A report revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to sue Tatler magazine for its “cruel, sexist, woman-shaming” report about the Duchess of Cambridge. The said magazine claimed that Kate feels "exhausted and trapped" after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal exit.

Tatler magazine also criticized Kate Middleton’s weight and claimed that she already had a fall out with Meghan Markle before the former actress's wedding with Prince Harry in 2018. Kensington Palace quickly slammed the report, stating that there is no truth to the claims. It then sent legal letters to Tatler magazine to have the ”Catherine the Great" article taken down on behalf of the Duchess of Cambridge. However, Tatler stands by the report.

If Prince William and Kate Middleton will indeed pursue the lawsuit, this move is definitely not the first time that a member from the Royal family had ignored the rules. In fact, Queen Elizabeth herself previously disregarded her own mantra to issue a heartfelt tribute during a private phone call with Professor Kathleen McCourt, the President of the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation last month.

An audio clip of the conversation was posted on Twitter by the official Kensington Palace account. Queen Elizabeth can be heard stressing the importance of the roles of the nurses during the coronavirus pandemic. Her Majesty also paid tribute to their tireless efforts throughout the global health crisis. The phone call took place on International Nurses Day.

But when it comes to breaking the royal tradition to fight against the press, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are two of the members of the Royal family that come to mind. The couple has a love-hate relationship with the media, and they even ended up suing a couple of tabloids.
