As early as 2019, rumors online claimed that Microsoft is planning to release two next-generation gaming consoles with one of them officially confirmed to be the powerful Xbox Series X. The other is the cheaper model, which is reportedly called Xbox Lockhart or Xbox Series S. While several tipsters believe that Microsoft already dropped the console, but it looks like this is not the case if the recent discovery is to go by.

On Twitter, a user named TitleOS shared several images which bear references to the heavily rumored cheaper next-generation gaming console from Microsoft, the Xbox Lockhart. Interestingly, the discovery was made on the Windows Operating System of the Redmond-based tech giant. The latest details only intensify the rumors that Microsoft has not scrapped the project.

The dataminer dug deep into the Windows library files and discovered references on other rumored Microsoft consoles. There are references to Xbox Anaconda, which is the company's project name for Xbox Series X. According to some insiders, the Xbox Series X is Microsoft's more powerful and more expensive gaming console.

The Xbox Lockhart, on the other hand, is the less powerful and cheaper gaming console that could cater to gamers who prefer a much cheaper next-generation gaming console. The names also make sense considering that the Redmond-based tech giant has been using X and S to identify different levels of their products. If Xbox Series S or Xbox Lockhart does exist, Microsoft is mum about it.

However, it is worth mentioning that the latest data mining activity is one of the solid indications that the Xbox Lockhart exists. It could also give fans more reason to believe that the cheaper next-generation console from Microsoft is in the works. But, the discovery is not in any way a guarantee that the Redmond-based tech giant would release it to the public.

Kotaku earlier reported that sources familiar to the matter revealed that Xbox Lockhart would offer a 1440p resolution. But, considering that Microsoft said that the Xbox Series X would support up to 8K resolution, there is a chance that the Xbox Lockhart could offer up to 4K resolution. Interestingly, several industry insiders predicted that the Xbox Series S might house an unannounced AMD chip.

At this point, in the absence of Microsoft's confirmation of the existence of the Xbox Lockhart, it is safer to take this information with a pinch of salt and with skepticism. The Redmond-based tech giant has a list of events for its next-generation gaming console, and if the Xbox Series S does exist, fans would soon witness its launch in one of these upcoming events.
