There's still uncertainty when it comes to the official release date of Chicago Fire season 9. Its arrival might be delayed, considering the current global health crisis. Despite that, a lot of interesting stories are coming when the new installment premieres.

One of the questions in Chicago Fire season 9 is whether or not Casey and Brett will be in a relationship. While it's not something that everyone wants to happen, some are still rooting for their potential romance. The emotional background is already there and their bond could be further explored.

Casey and Brett have taken some time to hint that some feelings are lying underneath the surface. This is something that could evolve as the series progresses. In fact, showrunner Derek Haas teased this possibility when discussing within the context of Kidd and Severide.

In an interview via CarterMatt, Kidd and Severide's relationship will be explored in Chicago Fire season 9, so were Casey and Brett. This only means there are more stories to tell with the two, wherein it could showcase how both of them move forward after all the heartaches.

Casey has gone through a divorce, while Brett has just lost her biological mother after spending a short time with her. Because of the things they've been through, these two could lean on each other and their relationship could lead to something deeper.

However, this would not be the first thing Chicago Fire season 9 will do once it arrives on NBC. Instead of figuring out the relationship status of some of the characters, the new installment may focus first with tying some of the loose ends left in the previous installment.

The series will likely revisit some of the episodes that weren't filmed in season 8. There could be some changes to balance out everything. Considering the previous events, some of the upcoming episodes of the new installment could be intense and dark.

As for the release date, NBC hasn't yet released its fall schedules. There's still uncertainty when it comes to the premiere date. The upcoming installment may not arrive anytime soon, given that cast and crew weren't able to start filming anytime soon.

The good news is that writers seemed to start working already with the script of Chicago Fire season 9. In a previous post on Twitter, Haas said they proceed with the plan for the writers' room on June 1. Yet, it remains to be seen when everyone will go back working after that.
