Line of Duty season 6 is officially happening on BBC, but there's still a question as to when the new installment will air. Due to the real-life health crisis happening around the world at the moment, most television shows have been impacted -- including the police drama.

The series is one of the best TV shows out there, where it often features dark and intense stories, as well as entertaining interrogation scenes. However, it seems like the viewers may need to wait for quite some time as Line of Duty season 6 won't be coming back on the small screen anytime soon.

The series shut down its filming because of the global health crisis and there's no clear indication as to when will everything be wrapped up and ready. Right now, health and safety are the top priorities. Cast and crew members could start working again as soon as the situation gets back to normal.

And since the series has been impacted with the coronavirus outbreak, its arrival might potentially be delayed. But as per CarterMatt, there is a possibility Line of Duty season 6 will premiere later this year -- though it still all depends on the situation.

Before the production was halted, the series has already started filming. In fact, BBC shared some behind-the-scenes photos to announced that they've already begun filming. And although the images didn't ease much detail, it's already enough to make viewers even more excited.

One of the photos featured Adrian Dunbar's Superintendent Ted Hastings, who can be seen in a uniform behind clapperboard. In another image, Martin Compston's Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott was seemingly leading a briefing.

As for the story, Line of Duty season 6 will have an 18-month time jump and will pick up the events that happened in season 5 finale. The latest installment sees the AC-12 exploring a new case, which focuses on Kelly Macdonald's Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson.

She is a senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case but falls under suspicion due to her unconventional behavior. No further details were revealed about the character, but she was tagged as the "the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced."

The new season will also follow other interesting storylines. The fifth installment ended with a huge cliffhanger, which leads to speculations that Ted Hastings is the mythical H. The latter is said to have organized crime syndicate and involved in high-level corruption.

Meanwhile, Dunbar, Compston, and Vicky McClure are all coming back in Line of Duty season 6. Other returning cast members also include Shalom Brune-Franklin, Andi Osho, Prasanna Puwanarajah, as well as Perry Fitzpatrick.
