Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contract does not run out for another 12 months but Arsenal FC has been urged to give the Gabon national a new deal if they intend to keep him at Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta already sounded off that he will sit down with the 30-year-old football player to discuss his role for the club moving forward. Unfortunately, nothing has been resolved with Aubameyang now left in waiting.

The Gabon captain confirmed that talks have gone down in recent months but nothing has been formally agreed. Hence, his future hinges on what the top management of Arsenal decides. He is waiting for the final verdict to figure out how to handle his future. Aubameyang made it clear that he has not made any decision on his next move, meaning there is a chance he could be staying on with the Gunners once his contract expires.

“The board knows very well why nothing has happened so far. They have the key. It's up to them to do their job and then we'll see how it goes," Aubameyang said.

To his credit, there are several teams interested in taking him in. Aubameyang has drawn interest from teams like Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. A move out would make sense only that it means having to adjust to a new system. And in the eyes of some, that could be a big risk. Aubameyang is not getting any younger and his playing years are being considered. He could be offered a two-year deal at the least. But after that, his future may no longer look promising - especially if the team he fails to continue his success with another club.

Hence, it seems Aubameyang would be best off staying at Emirates Stadium. But with the club made up of young players, some are not too convinced the mix will work out. Arteta has been infusing youth but has been cautioned not to overdo it. The club still needs veterans in the mix, perhaps the reason why the Gunners manager is not ready to let Aubameyang walk.

For the Gunners captain, his next decision will be critical. He is aware that he is not getting any younger and that any move to a new club will need the adjustment phase. He is undergoing the same thing right now with Arsenal. The difference is that the magnitude of blending in is not as high compared to joining a new club.

“It's a turning point in my career and, to be frank with everyone, this will be a very difficult decision to make. But beware, I haven't made my choice yet. It will be perhaps the most important decision of my career,” Aubameyang said.
