Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced back in January that they will be stepping down as senior royals to focus more on their family and charities. However, many believed that the reason for their withdrawal is much deeper than that.
It was heavily speculated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a rift with the Royal Family. A lot of people even noticed that the Duke of Sussex and Prince William were not as close as before. Now, a royal expert shared the key date when the cracks began to show.
"I can’t repeat it exactly, it’s in the book, but what I can say is, something happened at the very first garden party at Buckingham Palace,” royal author Lady Colin Campbell said. "We were all absolutely gobsmacked and astonished, we all thought this doesn’t bode well."
Although Lady Colin Campbell didn’t say the exact date when the alleged rift between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the Royal Family started, her comment hinted that the problems began very shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in 2018.
Royal expert Camilla Tominey previously said that five months after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, the royal brothers appeared to be distant from each other. Although Prince William and Prince Harry were happy and close during the latter’s nuptials, earlier reports claimed that the Duke of Cambridge already voiced his concerns before the wedding regarding how fast his brother and the former actress’ relationship was going.
While Prince William only meant well when he advised Prince Harry to slow things down, the Duke of Sussex, reportedly, didn’t take it well as he saw it as criticism. He was also upset that he felt that his older brother was not being supportive of his relationship with Meghan Markle.
Speculations about Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud started in February 2019, and events after that ignited the rumors even more. The Sussexes suddenly removed themselves from their joint foundation with the Cambridges, which seemingly confirmed the rift between the famous couples.
Late last year, Prince Harry finally addressed the status of his relationship with Prince William. The Duke of Sussex explained that he and his brother are “on different paths” now, but assured everyone that they will always love and support each other.
A recent report then brought back hope that Prince William and Prince Harry will finally mend their close bond. Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared that the royal brothers are chatting on video calls.
