Chelsea FC has been busy the past weeks, linked to several big names set to come in by the summer. Most know about Timo Werner which is practically a done deal. There are also other targets in the mix like Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell. Nothing has been finalized from those names but it appears Frank Lampard is far from done.

After addressing their offensive needs, Lampard is now focusing on making his defensive side better. Goalkeeping has not exactly been smooth for the Blues with Lampard shuffling Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero. Arrizabalaga has come under fire for his poor performance earlier this year, a reason why Lampard opted to go with Caballero. The move alone has drawn criticism but Lampard assured that Kepa understands the decisions he had to make. However, that may not be the reason why the Blues are looking for alternative players to be the club's goalkeeper.

Most clubs are financially distressed and Chelsea may be looking for ways to keep the club together. Kepa is branded as the world's most expensive goalkeeper after he was acquired from Atletico Bilbao in 2018 for $85 million. It is possible that Lampard may be looking at other (cheaper) options while also shaving off some expenses in the process. And one name that could make sense is Dean Henderson.

The rights of Henderson are with Manchester United but the 23-year-old has been playing on loan for Sheffield United. Just recently, Sheffield and the Red Devils reportedly held talks and agreed on a loan extension for Henderson. The English goalie will continue to play for Sheffield until the end of the season and likely return to Old Trafford afterward. However, Henderson is not assured of being the first-choice goalie with David de Gea as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's main goalkeeper for now.

Aware of this, reports have it that Chelsea will try to pitch a deal to United for Henderson in the summer. The Blues are allegedly willing to offer as much as $62 million for the 23-year-old, aside from the chance for him to be the team's first-choice goalkeeper. That alone could be tempting to Henderson who has made a good account of himself this season. It 28 appearances, Henderson has 11 clean sheets to show. Though he has played in the Premier League for just a year, Lampard probably sees something that could work at Stamford Bridge.

The only way this deal will not push through is if Sheffield works out a new deal to get Henderson. But if the money offered by the Blues proves more lucrative, Henderson may end up heading to Chelsea next season. However, it will equally be interesting if Lampard will hold three goalies or deal one of them this summer.
