Rising Manchester United star Scott McTominay has an impressive run in the season so far for Manchester United, and for that, the 23-year-old will be staying five more years at Old Trafford. The new deal came as the Scotland international emerged as one of the top Red Devils and always eager to play his heart out.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described McTominay as a vital part of his midfield roster. He added that the youngster deserved the new contract and stressed that McTominay "will be a major asset to the squad over the coming years."
Metro said Solskjaer saw in McTominay tenacity and determination, which the youngster learned as a graduate of the United academy.
The player's excellent form led to the deal that will see him starring for the Solskjaer side in the next five years. The same contract gives United the option to give McTominay another year. However, no compensation details about the contract were made available.
A sign that the deal was forthcoming is that McTominay is among the candidates tipped to win the "Player of the Season" award. And he is a key component in the new gameplay formulated by Solskjaer that gives emphasis on the attacking prowess of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
It's quite obvious that the midfielder has made good impressions at Old Trafford that he has already appeared in 75 games by the Red Devils, all as part of the first-team.
BBC said the central midfielder has cleared the net six times in the Premier League and among the most notable of his deployments on the pitch was the game against Manchester City in March. United defeated the league's No. 2 team at 2-0 and McTominay has his name on one of the goals scored during the match.
In a statement he issued after signing the deal, McTominay expressed joy that he will be part of the future of the only football club that he dreamed of playing for.
"All I have ever known is United and I hope that my passion for the club shows every time I go onto the pitch. I'll continue to give everything for this club whenever I pull on the shirt," Sky Sports reported the United man as saying.
He added that he will continue to work hard to achieve the goals set by United for the season.
The club is no longer in contention to win the Premier League title as that honor is already reserved for Liverpool. Solskjaer, however, can surely use some help from McTominay and the rest of the squad to finish in the Top 4 of the table, which will give the side a ticker to the Champions League.
