Elton John's ex-wife started a legal proceeding against the singer. Renate Blauel sought an injunction against the "Rocket Man" singer after decades of keeping away from the spotlight since their divorce.
Blauel's lawyer confirmed to The Guardian that paperwork had been filed and hoped that the matter would be resolved amicably. The reason behind the injunction is unclear and Blauel's lawyer declined to elaborate on the nature of the filing.
Reports, however, noted that injunctions are often used in cases relating to privacy matters or to prevent materials from being published. There were speculations that Renate's injunction could be related to the Rocketman movie.
Blauel kept a low profile after she got divorced from the iconic singer. However, there have been renewed interests in their marriage after the release of Rocketman last year. The Golden Globe-winning biopic followed the life of the legendary artist. In the movie, actor Taron Egerton played the role of Elton John while Dutch actress Celinde Schoenmaker portrayed Renate.
Blauel was a former flight attendant. She started working in London's Air recording studios in the early 1980s. She was credited on albums such as Duran Duran's Rio and The Human League's Hysteria.
John and Blauel first met in 1983 in London while the singer was working on his Too Low For Zero album. The following year, the German-born sound engineer joined John's entourage for a tour of Australia.
They exchanged vows in Sydney in 1984. Four years later, the couple broke up. It was also the same year that John revealed that he was gay. He later said his ex-wife was the classiest woman he ever met, but he was living a lie if they stayed married.
In an interview in 2007, the "Tiny Dancer" singer talked about his decision to get married. He stressed that he loved Renate. John confessed that hurting his ex-wife is one of the things that he regrets in his life.
He again remembered his previous marriage to Blauel while on his Australia tour in 2017. In his Instagram post at the time, John talked about his current marriage to his long-time boyfriend David Furnish and also recalled the time when he first tied the knot with Renate in Australia.
Last year, John released his memoir Me. In the book, the rock star described his agony at his divorce from Renate and his struggle to accept his sexuality.
He revealed in the book that he invited Blauel over when he first became a parent, but she declined the invite. In 2014, the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" singer married his Furnish. They have two sons together: Zachary, 9, and Elijah, 7.
