It's no secret that Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 gave the animated series a proper conclusion. It also revealed how Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano managed to survive the dreaded Order 66 from the Star Wars prequel films. However, there was something about the revelation in the final season that didn't sit well with some fans. For instance, it looked like Rex wasn't exactly truthful with Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels.

In Star Wars Rebels, an older Rex met Kanan Jarrus who was doubtful about what the Clone Trooper had done when Order 66 was executed. Interestingly, Rex told the Jedi that he had extracted the Inhibitor chip that forced the troopers to turn about Kanan's fellow Jedi. However, things happened differently in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7.

The episode Shattered confirmed that Rex and Ahsoka Tano were already on their way to present the captive Maul to the Jedi Council when Darth Sidious called Rex with his order. In addition to that, it wasn't actually Rex to extracted the Inhibitor chip in the first place. In the episode, Ahsoka needed the help of three droids and the Force to remove the chip from Rex. The two would then have to fight their way out as the other Clone Troopers tried to kill them.

So, why did Rex lie about what happened to him during Order 66? Executive producer Dave Filoni spoke to Nerdist about the plot hole and gave a reasonable explanation.

"I think when you reach [Rex] in Rebels and he says, 'I took out my control chip' to Kanan as a way of explaining that we all can make a choice," Filoni explained. "I think he sees that as true and I think it's one way that he's coped with things. He did get it removed. Kanan doesn't need to know the minute details of Rex's life."

Dave Filoni further stated that fans shouldn't think too much about continuity and simply try to understand why Rex chose to reveal only part of the truth to Kanan Jarrus. "Rex at that moment tells Kanan the point of view Kanan needs to understand who Rex is and what he's really about. Later on, do they have a scene where they get into the truth of it that was a lot scarier? Probably, but I think Kanan also knows that," Filoni said.

The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is still streaming on Disney+.
