The 2020 iPhone SE is reportedly well-received so Apple will naturally plot for a sequel and it is expected to drop next year. However, since the SE branding is now known as the most affordable in the iPhone lineup, the 2021 version is said to adopt the same pricing model but with a trade-off. The A13 chip is still part of the package.
The possibility was suggested by tech tipster MauriQHD, who claimed the 2019 Bionic chip will remain the power beneath the upcoming iPhone SE upgrade.
The claim is not yet confirmed but if true will be a sort of a letdown. That's because the iPhone SE has been known to utilize the latest A-series mobile processors available to Apple and for 2020 the A14 chip is expected to debut with the iPhone 12. The expectation is the same silicon will find its way to the 2021 make of the iPhone SE.
Yet according to MauriQHD, A13 will be preferred chip for the next SE offering and he claimed that Apple will compensate by jamming the handset with notable upgrades. Too bad though that the same tipster held back on what the exact new things that will arrive with the 2021 iPhone SE, WCCFTech reported.
In any case, A13 is not entirely a bad choice for the next-generation iPhone SE. Per the same report, the chip will have the muscle to deliver and hold a candle against rival processors that will be touching down this 2020.
How A13 will fare with the iPhone SE of next year will greatly depend on Apple's implementation. On the hardware side, the handset is expected to fire up with the latest inner components that will practically make it line with the upcoming iPhone 12 series.
The industrial design will likely take a page from an older sibling and the possibility is high that Apple could repurpose the iPhone X as the new iPhone SE.
Now on the software side, it is certain that the 2021 edition will be optimized for iOS 14. The new OS is seen to behave well even for legacy iPhone models, as far back as the iPhone 6S, so there should be no issue on this aspect.
The Verge said Apple will make significant changes to the way the iPhone is packaged, and the decision will also affect the SE push. A plan is now underway to ship future iPhone models with no earbuds and power adapter to make for smaller packaging.
The target is to make the product more eco-friendly and to cut costs, which likely could lead to a more attractive price tag for the iPhone. As a lower price is identified with the iPhone SE so it is a no-brainer that adjustment will be seen when the 2021 version is released.
