Patrick Dempsey is wearing a mask again and Grey's Anatomy fans are freaking out. Fans felt nostalgic after Dempsey shared a photo of him in a mask and brought back the famous line of his character in the hit medical drama.
As coronavirus continues to spread in the U.S., Dempsey used something that his fans could identify with. "It's a beautiful day to save lives," the actor wrote in his post on Instagram along with his photo wearing a mask and hashtags #WearAMask and #YourActionsSaveLives.
The Devils actor did that to appeal to his fans to follow the CDC recommendation about wearing masks and helping each other to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Dempsey's character in Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Derek Shepherd (also known as McDreamy), has been known for saying this line every time he walked into the operating room to perform a surgery.
After seeing Dempsey's post, many fans expressed how they miss Dr. Meredith Grey's husband while others can't help but cry again over the fact that they would never hear the neurosurgeon uttering the same line again at the operating room of Grey's Anatomy. Some opted to share GIFs of Derek while saying his famous line as a tribute to the fan-favorite character.
Others said they want to see the character again even in just a cameo appearance in the upcoming Grey's Anatomy Season 17. Many also thanked Dempsey for using his platforms to spread positive and encouraging messages to his fans.
The Bridget Jones's Baby actor has been actively backing up efforts in the fight against COVID-19. He constantly reminds his fans to stay home and help out the front liners.
Over the weekend, Dempsey also shared a video of Dr. Anthony Fauci speaking on the importance of everyone's cooperation in stopping the spread of the virus. Dempsey urged his 4.7 million followers to listen to Fauci and again encouraged everyone to wear a mask.
Meanwhile, Dempsey had a mini-reunion in April with Grey's Anatomy co-star Eric Dane. The Last Ship actor shared a photo of him and Dempsey hanging out together but still practicing social distancing. In Dane's photo, the two were seen standing six feet away from each other.
Dempsey was one of the original cast members of Grey's Anatomy. He was killed off in the series in 2015. Dane, on the other hand, joined the show as Dr. Mark Sloan (a.k.a McSteamy) in 2006 and exited six years later.
