Princess Diana would have been 59 years old on July 1. The Princess of Wales was one of the most popular and well-loved members of the Royal Family before her tragic passing over two decades ago.
Despite her death, Princess Diana’s legacy still lives on. In fact, the People’s Princess remains an inspiration to a lot of people, which is why an award ceremony was set up in her memory on her birthday.
But due to the coronavirus lockdown, the ceremony was held virtually. Prince Harry then delivered a speech on behalf of himself and his brother Prince William. The Duke of Sussex shared how proud he was to be a part of the event, and he also pointed out that Princess Diana would have been in their corner regarding the division that the world is facing right now.
"I know that my mother has been an inspiration to many of you, and I can assure you she would have been fighting your corner,” he said. Prince Harry then added that he’s confident about the future because people are very hopeful despite the circumstances.
Prince Harry’s speech comes as he and Meghan Markle have started pursuing new endeavors after quitting royal life. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced back in January that they wish to step down from being senior royal to focus on their family and charities.
On March 31, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially withdrew from their roles and are now residing in the US to make a fresh start. Although Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family members supported their decision, the couple had to face the consequences of their actions.
Last month was the start for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to abide with the arrangement after their royal exit. It is during this month that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can no longer use the word “Royal” in their new ventures, which is a title that the prince has carried since birth. Now, he is losing the title that was a big part of him in exchange for financial independence and a “peaceful life.”
Initially, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still wish to continue serving Queen Elizabeth. However, Her Majesty declined their request.
Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to withdraw from being senior royals, they still want to “collaborate” with Queen Elizabeth. However, they were told that they can “no longer formally represent” Her Majesty in their new lives.
