Golden State will not be making moves to adjust the team's roster until the NBA gives the green light for trades and other roster changes to begin. Already sidelined for the rest of the NBA season because of their poor win-loss record, the Warriors, like all NBA teams, are waiting to make any roster moves until August.
Around that time, the hiring questions are expected to be answered, which should come shortly after the lifting of the transaction moratorium. The Warriors are tipped to get a top pick in the 2020 Draft, which is currently scheduled for October – meaning there's no real need for the team to rush any hiring moves.
Also, the Dubs are waiting for the official figures on salary caps and luxury tax, and these are important factors the team will want to consider in making any changes. It goes the same for most all other NBA teams, because the numbers will allow them the room to maneuver on what to do next or who will they sell and bring in.
According to NBC Sports, even if the moratorium is lifted, the Warriors and other teams are not expected to speed up on the hiring decisions until the unknowns have been revealed. The report picked up from the information shared by Bobby Marks of ESPN.
"Because future salary-cap and luxury tax numbers are still unknown ... Expect teams to hold off on making real moves, even if the moratorium is lifted," Marks was reported as saying.
It is understood that the Warriors are dead-serious on regaining their winning ways following a sorry campaign that saw the team clocking the worst win-loss record at the end of the pandemic-shortened regular season. The organization has already declared that its minimum expectation for next season is to win another NBA title.
Such a target will be realized if supported by a championship-caliber lineup. The Dubs will see the return of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in a healthier state, but ample support will need to be brought in for the core talents to perform at an optimal level.
So it should not come as a surprise that the Warriors intend to make big signings both in the open market and through the draft.
Still on the subject of capturing the Larry O'Brien again, CBS Sports said it's more likely that the Warriors will not participate in the planned second bubble games in Chicago. And even if GSW will attend, the likes of Curry and Thompson will not be around.
The obvious reason is the Warriors want to make sure that the roster will remain healthy going to the next season.
